Our trip to Tennessee!
The Dons Net Cafe is back from Tennessee where we really enjoyed visiting the south and the great southern hospitalitiy. Our main purpose was to attend the Virtual Enterprise International Trade Fair in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and to meet with our Tennessee family, mentors, and business partners at Spirit and Pride in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We all felt our Spirit and Pride visit was the most meaningful part of our trip. Our newest venture, Design-N-Cut emulates Spirit and Pride in every way possible. The featured picture shows the time we spent there. We highly recommend Spirit and Pride to you for your school T-Shirt needs and we are truly honored to work with them.
If you plan on visiting Pigeon Forge, we recommend you do NOT trust these Google Maps directions. Stay on the highway, stop at a Waffle House for directions! We experienced the ride of a lifetime through 20-miles of backwood, darkness, curves, no-one-for-miles, creeks, to end next to a cemetery that was eye-level with the road for miles! We went up a steep hill and from that environment we landed in front of a huge King Kong on top of a wildly lit building. It was really hysterical when it was over. Almost as good as the Tennessee Tornado in Dollywood.
After a great time in Pigeon Forge, we headed to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and took the round trip tram up, $11 per person, to Ober Gatlinburg where several DNC members had their first experience with ice skating and tubing. This was really a great experience for us as well and after this we knew why these were called the Smoky Mountains. If we are lucky enough to come again, we will look to rent a cabin in Gatlinburg, beautiful creeks and in the heart of the Smoky National Forest. We were very impressed with the animal reserve that helped out bears, raccoons, skunks, and any other animal that had been injured. Always great to see great people helping animals.
Our next adventure led us to The Hermitage, President Andrew Jackson's plantation. It was a real eye-opener for us and incredible to learn about Old Hickory and see where he lived and ultimately died. You will take another look at the $20 bill after this trip and it cost $11 per person, very reasonable and really a must.
We had to go by American Pickers in the Nashville, Tennessee location. The location itself is pretty amazing, located in an old brick building that housed the Marathon Motor Car company from 1914-1918.
Lastly, we ate some dang good Southern food. We could argue about what was the most amazing but you must go to the Waffle House (true smothered/covered experience), Cracker Barrel (must have pecan pie), and we recommend the Peg Leg Porker in Nashville, great prices, incredible BBQ, and way cool people work there.
Those are the highlights of a great trip. Join us for our next adventure and feel free to ask for input if you are planning a trip to this area. We highly recommend you do, y'all take care!
