Earth Day! Bringing it Home!
Earth Day! Bringing it Home!

Earth Day is a special day to promote awareness and appreciation for the Earth?s environment. Did you know that Santa Barbara was the birthplace of Earth Day? After seeing the devastation of the 1969 oil spill on our beach and coast, Senator Gaylord Nelson introduced a bill designating April 22nd as a national day to celebrate the earth.

Earth Day will be taking place at Alameda Park on Saturday April 17th, and Sunday the 18th.
Earth Day 40 has the theme ?Bringing It Home? which stresses the importance of bringing sustainability into our own homes, as well as our larger home-our country, our state, our planet! We have been given the honor of being Youth Ambassadors for Earth Day. We are working under the direct guidance of David Forston of LoaTree and the Community Environmental Council.

Earth Day! Bringing it Home!

We have begun our endeavors by contacting every school in the entire county to find the GREEN people who will help us at each site. We will be helping by reaching out to youths in our community and trying to get everyone involved with this very important and historical event. Our mantra being "Win free prizes by taking a personal action!"

We are also contacting media outlets, Facebooking, Twittering, and blogging. We are making posters and trying to stir up some competition between schools to make the best video for Green Shorts. We will also be helping at Earth Day by customizing Earth Day shirts and buttons and having a booth at Alameda Park on both days.

What can you do? Enter a photo, essay, or Green Shorts video! If you have any ideas we would love to hear from you! Remember?the planet you save could be your own!
