Dons Net Cafe's VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) just completed our 20th year doing free tax returns for our community.  It has not been easy; there are always issues, but we truly love what we do and we all become very close.  Our alumni even come back to help and I think that says it all.  Helping people feels good and, believe it or not, we actually miss doing tax sessions.

We encourage all students to take VITA next year at Santa Barbara High School or even consider starting it at your school.  Knowing how to do taxes will be a distinct advantage in your future.  It is actually not as difficult as it seems, especially when you have classmates and hands-on instruction.  The more you do, the more you learn, the better you get.

This year our top all-around tax preparers were Elisha and Henry.  Both of them always exhibited professionalism, patience, and dependabilty.  We thank all of our volunteers, Jhonvany, Mirella, Gisela, and especially Bob, a now-retired IRS agent who also helped Ms. B start the program. A special thanks also goes out to the United Way for our grant.

Remember to keep your tax returns in a safe place for 3 years becauase the IRS will charge you to print them again and since we are a free tax site, paper and ink are expensive!  Have a great year, keep your files organized, and we will be here to serve you next year in the Dons Net Cafe!
