Dr. Dre Speech on Marine Debris

Posted by marissa.correa@yahoo.com at 01:58 PM on January 21, 2010

January 20th, the Dons Net Cafe attended a speech on marine debris given by Dr. Andrea Neal. It was hosted in Isla Vista at theater two. She talked about the harmful effects that plastic have on marine life. She showed pictures of her findings and among those photos were pictures of "nets". These "nets" are composed of pure trash in which fish eat off of and get stuck in. The "nets" range in size from the size of a regular car to the size of a Hummer. We also learned that the tale of a land mass the size of Texas floating around in the ocean, is nothing more than a tale. In reality, plastic has a bigger more dangerous range; the whole ocean. There is no land mass that you can physically walk on, more like these nets, and huge pieces of waste just floating around. A wide range of waste such as, car tires, milk cartons, plastic bottles, plastic bags, etc.

So help the DNC and Dr. Dre clean the ocean. RE-USE is the key word. contact us for more info.

So in reality, there is much more trash than there would have been with just an "island" the size of Texas.
We should start giving seminars, etc like Dr. Dre about all of the things that DNC does.
